john M. McCarthy jmm7@sbcglobal.net Los Angeles, CA USA Well Hello: I have a meeage in the "board" that indicates my email as johnmmccarthy@yahoo.com. I'd like to update that to jmm7@sbcglobal.net. I did correspond with one gal that remembered the "Wassukeag Prep School boys" (I was one of them) passing by her families home on the hill. This was in 1965!! It would be just great to hear back from any of past students or the "Stewart sisters". I remember them as Melodie & Mereadeth!! How time changes things.. Life is good. I wish you all the best that life offers! How the wind\ter shaping up? Be well and remain safe. Best Regards, John M. Because the eBay seller was from Michigan, he assumed that this event took place in Dexter, Michigan -- but the listed names are not familiar to Michigan historians of that area. According to the invitation, the ball was scheduled to be held at "the assembly room of William Tompkins", and would feature "music by Winegar and Tyler". I wonder if perhaps any Dexter, Maine, historians recognize these names, and could tell me whether the ball was held in Maine's Dexter rather than the village here in Michigan? The seller lists other items from the ambiguous Dexter as well. Another Dexter item announces a "promenade concert" of the Dexter Cornet Band on October 18, 1875, at the Young Men's Hall, with supper to follow at Allport's Exchange. A list of the invitation committee includes the names B. L. Wood, J. Peatt, D. Litchfield, C. Chamberlain, and W. I. Keal. Floor managers were M. S. Cook, E. E. Appleton, and D. Waite. Any information will be most welcome. Thank you, ---Wystan Stevens, Dexter/Ann Arbor, Michigan area historian wystans@yahoo.com -Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 15:24:21 (EDT) Susan Carter Bowden soozyb@pivot.net Searsmont, ME USA I am a native of Dexter, just saw my sister Jeanne Carter Wright's quilts on this web. He died on December 23, 1968. According to The Eastern Gazette, Charles Elbridge Atwater had a surviving son, Frank G. Atwater, Philippine Islands. The son, Frank Gorham Atwater, was born on July 3, 1927, in Newburgh, when Charles Elbridge Atwater was employed as a Fireman for MCRR. Elbridge Atwater testified at the trial of Sacco and Vanzetti on June 30, 1921. When he married Alice Morgridge on December 24, 1910, he was employed as a Fireman for the MCRR. It would be quite useful for me to have the employment record of Elbridge Atwater in the year 1913. Thank you. I am revising my book on Sacco and Vanzetti. If you have relevant information, I hope you will share it with me. Thank you. -Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at 12:43:55 (EST) veronica mendoza luvsdarylhall@usa.com portland, or USA hi. does anyone know the owner of the bates tavern now? do you have a address? thanks, veronica -Saturday, November 06, 2004 at 18:32:06 (EST) Gloria pelletier aepell@metrocast.net rochester, nh USA My great-greatgrandfather was living in Dexter sometime around 1910, I believe he died there, would like to find out were is is buried, his widow was Alice Morgridge...His name was Richard Luther...Alice was his 2nd. wife... -Monday, October 25, 2004 at 09:00:03 (EDT) John McCarthy johnmmccarthy@yahoo.com Los Angeles, CA USA I was at summer camper back in 1965-66 at Camp Wassakeag, right on the lake. I was born in Dexter; and most of my happiest memories revolve around my grandparent's farm on Ripley Rd. My grandparents lived there for almost 100 years. George Eugene Swanton and Alice May (Larrabee) Swanton.
