DEXTER - The Dexter Historical Society has installed a quilt exhibit at the Abbott Museum. Quiltmaker Jeanne Carter Wright is a former Dexter resident, a sixth generation native.
Several of the quilts on display were made by her ancestors, including one her grandmother, Edith Wilbur, made for Jeanne. Six large quilts are ones Jeanne created herself, since retiring three years ago. One called “Sunbonnet Sue” features many little girls in a variety of activities. The “Tea Party” quilt is whimsical, and good enough to eat. The “Scrabble” quilt uses family names as the words. Many of the quilts were blue ribbon winners and are all handmade.
The quilts are available for viewing at the Abbott Museum, 12 Church Street, Dexter during open hours, Wednesday to Friday, 12:00 to 4:00 and Saturdays 10:00 to 4:00. Admission is free. For information call 924-5721.
