DEXTER - Spring is here and the Dexter Historical Society is gearing up for the 2006 season. An energetic group of freshman from DRHS worked on the grounds at both the Grist Mill Campus and the Abbott Museum on Community Action Day.

Renovation work at the Abbott Museum is ongoing. The Lancaster Reading Room has been wallpapered and a bookcase designed by Bev Goldstone and built by Vince Brown is now in place.

Work on the lower level has gotten a new lease on life from generous donations by the Odd Fellows and from in memory donations for Sandra Poulin. We have also received a matching grant for $5,000 from the Maine State Archives and the Maine State Museum with funds from the State of Maine's New Century Community Program.

The 2006 newsletter will be in the mail soon and will include our new trifold glossy color brochure. Both are available at the Abbott Museum for those who don't receive one in the mail.

The next meeting will be on May 17 at 7:00 PM in the Crawford Conference Room of the Abbott Museum, 12 Church St., Dexter. We will discuss plans for the summer. All are welcome to attend. For information call 924-5721.
