Monday, May 22, 2006
DEXTER - The Dexter Historical Society announces that the Abbott Museum and Gift Shop, 12 Church Street, Dexter will return to the summer schedule on Monday, June 5. It will then be open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 to 4:00. Shop visitors will find many new offerings from local artists and craftsmen.

The Lancaster Reading Room at the Abbott Museum is available for research activities. It is also offering an exhibit of photographs and other materials about the Park Theatre donated by Steve Bailey. Bailey was the manager at the time the theater closed in October 1967.

George Brown opened the first movie theater in Dexter in 1908 in the Gerry Building. After several changes of ownership it was sold to Dr. Charles Haines and Charles Wyman in 1912. They then built the Park Theatre on lower Main Street which provided several generations of Dexterites with hours of entertainment and many fond memories.

The Grist Mill Museum will reopen on Monday, June 12. Hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00 to 4:00, Saturday from 1:00 to 4:00. A visit to the Grist Mill Campus includes the Millers House and the Carr Schoolhouse. Volunteers are always needed to assist visitors at all our facilities. A docent training session will be held on Wednesday, June 14 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Grist Mill Museum. More information about this class will be presented soon, or call 924-5721.
