DEXTER - The Dexter Historical Society is now observing fall hours at the Grist Mill Museum after a very successful 35th anniversary summer. We will be open Monday through Saturday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM until the end of September. Recent acquisitions on view include two chairs and a table, made in Dexter by the E.M. Tibbetts Company around 1875, that were donated by the Dexter Grange. Two new Fernwood building blocks portraying the Abbott Mill and the Dumbarton Mill as well as the 2003 calendar devoted to photographs by Bert Call are on sale at the museum. The society recently installed a new exhibit in the window of the Millside Building that honors women at work. It features photographs of women from around the turn of the century working as store clerks, office personnel, telephone operators and waitresses, as well as some office machinery once used in Dexter businesses. The society will hold its annual meeting with election of officers at the Abbott Museum building on September 18 at 7:00 PM. All members, and the public are invited to attend.
