At the Annual Meeting of the Dexter Historical Society on October 20, 2004 the following officers were elected: Peter Prescott, President, Thomas Tillson, Vice-president, David Pearson, Treasurer, Carol Feurtado, Secretary and Richard Whitney, Director.

The Grist Mill Museum closed for the season on October 2 after hosting over 1500 visitors. Ritton Signs of Corinna recently installed a long, gold on black sign for the Abbott Museum, at 12 Church St.

The Abbott Museum is currently hosting an exhibit of sculptures by Rick Beckjord of Sullivan. His work features representational figures of people and animals in a variety of materials; stone, wood, clay and plaster. The exhibit runs through November 13 during regular store hours.

On November 6 the Abbott Museum and the Abbott Mill Gift Shop will hold an open house from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Tours of the building will be available. New items arrive at the gift shop frequently, including a revised version of the afghan offered during Dexter's Bicentennial in 2001. The afghan now reads Dexter, Maine – Heart of Maine, while retaining all the buildings represented before. Other items offered include Made in Maine candles, soap, balsam pillows and greeting cards. Local crafters' wares include furniture, stained glass, quilts. Regular store hours are Monday to Saturday 10:00 to 4:00, and Sunday 1:00 to 4:00.
