An illustration of the Amos Abbott & Company Mill complex and homes fromt he 1882 History of Penobscot county. The building on the lower left in the mill complex was originally the Dexter Town Hall. The floor collapsed during the town meeting in 1856, dropping three hundred residents to the basement. Miraculously no one was really hurt except the sheriff, who landed on the hot barrel woodstove. His exclamations were said to be very vigorous. The building was bought by the Abbott brothers, moved, repaired, and used for offices. It still stands nearly across from the Universalist Church. Both residences pictured are gone; thier sites are now occupied by Bud's Shop N' Save.
