The Amos Abbott & Company Mill at the outlet of Pleasant Pond, now Lake Wassookeag. This business was begun by Amos and JEremiah Abbott in 1820, when they purchased the mill site, buildings, and water privilege from Jonathan Farrar. At the time of the purchase by the Abbotts the site contained a sawmill and carding mill. By 1836 the mill was fully integrated, manufacturing woolen cloth from raw wool to finished product. The Abbotts always clained that the mill was the first fully-integrated mill in the state of Maine.
