In 1899 the Amos Abbott Company bega construction of a three-story addition to theor mill on Church Street. The completed addition greatly facilitated the production of woolen cloth, and a 1917 Chamber of Commerce publication states that the mill had been producing over a half million yards of cloth for the past few years. The Abbott Mill was known for manufacturing heavy Mackinaw cloth of a very high quality, which became known as the "Abbott grays". This brick addition was later expanded twice in the twentieth century, doubling the length of the original brick structure.
