Gus Pooler was the first "French kid" to graduate from Dexter High School. In those days it was common for the children of French descent to go immediately into the mills by age fifteen and never finish high school. Augustus Pooler was cut from a different cloth. Not only did he graduate, but went to work in a clothing store on Main Street and became well-respected in the business community.
